Remove hidden metadata before you share
CleanSend inspects supported still images for recognized metadata, creates a separately sanitized copy in your browser, and verifies that supported metadata blocks are absent before download or secure sharing.
How CleanSend works
- Choose one JPEG, PNG, or still WebP image up to 10 MiB.
- Review the supported metadata categories CleanSend detects.
- Create and verify a separate sanitized copy without overwriting the original.
Why image metadata can affect privacy
Photo metadata can include EXIF fields such as GPS coordinates, camera and device details, timestamps, editing software, author information, and comments. Removing supported fields reduces hidden information before a file is downloaded or shared.
Cleaning and encryption solve different problems. CleanSend removes supported hidden information from the file, while Strumio encryption protects the cleaned file during secure delivery.
What CleanSend does not promise
- CleanSend reduces hidden information but does not make a file anonymous.
- Unknown application-specific payloads may not be recognized.
- JPEG and WebP files are re-encoded at high quality, so exact bytes and file size can change.
- PDF, office documents, animated images, and files over 10 MiB are not supported.
CleanSend questions
Does CleanSend upload my original image?
No. Inspection and cleaning run locally in your browser. If you explicitly choose secure sharing afterward, Strumio encrypts the verified cleaned copy in your browser and uploads only its ciphertext.
What metadata can CleanSend remove?
CleanSend removes supported metadata blocks that can contain GPS or location data, camera and device details, timestamps, editing software, author information, comments, and other recognized image metadata.
Does removing metadata make an image anonymous?
No. Metadata removal reduces hidden information, but visible image content, filenames, unknown payloads, and other contextual clues may still identify a person or place.
How is metadata removal different from encryption?
Metadata removal strips supported hidden information from the file. Encryption protects the entire file during secure sharing so only someone with the complete Strumio link can decrypt it.
