A trustworthy temporary inbox

Create a temporary Strumio email address to sign up for services, test applications, or receive messages from unverified contacts without exposing your real address.

Private Mail features

Lifetimes from 1 hour to 30 days.

Real receiving addresses, no fake domains or fallbacks.

Move a received message straight into a temporary Private Chat to continue securely.

Messages are encrypted at rest after ingestion.

Destroy a mailbox at any time to immediately remove Strumio access and queue provider-side deletion.

Honest limits

Standard SMTP email is inherently insecure. While Strumio encrypts stored messages at rest, the sending mail provider and the Strumio ingestion servers must process the plaintext to deliver it. Do not use Private Mail to receive highly sensitive information.

How temporary Private Mail works

Create a receiving address with a defined lifetime

A signed-in user can request a randomly generated receiving address and choose a lifetime of 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. The displayed countdown helps you see when the mailbox will stop being available. Private Mail is intended for short-lived registrations, product tests, newsletters, and contacts you do not yet want connected to your primary address.

The address is a real receiving address only when the Private Mail provider is enabled and available. Strumio reports an unavailable state rather than inventing an address or silently falling back to another domain. Account limits may restrict how many active mailboxes can exist at once.

Receive and read messages with realistic email boundaries

Internet email normally travels through SMTP systems that can inspect or retain plaintext. The sender's provider and Strumio's ingestion path necessarily process an incoming message before Strumio encrypts it for storage. Encryption at rest protects the stored Strumio copy; it does not turn the original email journey into end-to-end encrypted delivery.

Because of that boundary, do not use Private Mail for passwords, recovery codes, private keys, medical records, or other material that should never pass through ordinary email. For a sensitive handoff, use a browser-encrypted SecretLink or an encrypted Strumio conversation and verify the other person separately.

Continue a conversation without replying by email

Private Mail is receive-only: the implementation does not send an email reply from the temporary address. A received message can instead be used to begin a temporary Secure Chat invitation. That moves future conversation into Strumio's browser-encrypted chat flow, but it cannot retroactively encrypt the email that already arrived.

Before inviting an unfamiliar sender, confirm that continuing the conversation is appropriate. A From address and display name can be spoofed, and a message arriving in a private mailbox is not proof of identity. Treat links and attachments from unknown senders with the same caution you would use in a normal inbox.

Expire or destroy the mailbox

A mailbox becomes unavailable after its selected lifetime. You can also destroy it early. Destruction immediately removes access through Strumio, removes local wrapped key and ciphertext records used by the mailbox flow, and queues provider-side inbox deletion with retries. Provider cleanup is a lifecycle rather than a claim that every external email copy disappears instantly.

Deleting a Strumio mailbox cannot remove copies retained by the sender, sending provider, transit systems, backups, screenshots, or files you downloaded. Use mailbox expiration to reduce ongoing exposure and unwanted future mail, not as a guarantee that an email never existed.

Private Mail frequently asked questions

Is Private Mail end-to-end encrypted?

No. Ordinary email providers and Strumio's ingestion system process incoming plaintext before Strumio encrypts the message at rest. Use a SecretLink or encrypted chat for highly sensitive content.

Can I send or reply from a temporary mailbox?

No. Private Mail is receive-only. You can create a Secure Chat invitation from a received message when you want to continue through a browser-encrypted channel.

How long can a mailbox last?

The implemented choices are 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. You can destroy an active mailbox earlier.

Does a temporary address prove who sent a message?

No. Email sender information can be misleading or spoofed. Verify important contacts through a known channel and be cautious with unexpected links or attachments.

What happens when I destroy a mailbox?

Strumio access and its local wrapped key and ciphertext records are removed immediately, while provider-side inbox deletion is queued and retried. Copies outside Strumio are not erased.
