How private chat without an account works
An account-free Strumio room is a temporary two-person encrypted text conversation. Its complete invitation grants access, so safe use depends on careful delivery, participant verification, and realistic expectations.

Know what the account-free room includes
Anyone can create a temporary room without supplying an email, profile, or permanent username. This narrower mode supports encrypted text for exactly two participants. Available lifetimes are 10 minutes, 1 hour, and 24 hours. Attachments, Dead Drops, and group rooms require a signed-in creator.
The room key is created in the browser and remains in the complete invitation's URL fragment. Chat messages are encrypted and decrypted in participant browsers with AES-256-GCM. Strumio still processes ciphertext and limited operational data required to create, connect, rate-limit, expire, and clean up the room.
Create a room whose lifetime matches the conversation
Use 10 minutes for a coordinated exchange, 1 hour for a short support conversation, or 24 hours when schedules may not align. A longer lifetime improves availability but extends the period during which a leaked invitation may be useful. Do not create a room far in advance and leave its complete link in a public calendar.
An optional password adds another access check. Share it separately from the invitation through a channel unlikely to be compromised at the same time. A weak password or one placed beside the link adds little. The password does not identify a participant and cannot protect plaintext after a legitimate browser displays it.
Protect and verify the invitation
Treat the full invitation as a secret because its fragment contains key material. A locally generated QR code contains the same complete invitation and deserves the same protection. Avoid public posts, analytics-enabled link shorteners, support tickets, and shared documents. Check recipients before sending and ask them not to forward it.
Display names are labels, not verified identities. Confirm important participants through a known number, existing authenticated account, or in-person exchange. Someone who obtains the invitation and any required password may attempt to join; browser encryption cannot determine whether the person holding that capability is the human you intended.
Use Panic Close and End for different outcomes
Panic Close asks Strumio to revoke the current participant session and clears that chat's in-memory and session data on the current device. It is a quick individual exit. It does not end the room for the other participant and cannot erase text that either participant already copied, photographed, or stored elsewhere.
The creator can end the room for everyone before scheduled expiration. Expiration also makes it unavailable and starts cleanup through the implemented lifecycle. Both controls stop later Strumio conversation access; neither reaches screenshots, clipboard history, device backups, malware captures, or notes made outside the room.
Choose another feature when the job is different
Use a SecretLink for one focused handoff with one-time retrieval, encrypted files, or one encrypted reply. Sign in for group conversations of up to 20 participants, standard encrypted attachments, and Dead Drops with claim limits. Use an account-free room when two people specifically need short-lived encrypted text back and forth.
Do not use temporary chat as a permanent record, identity system, emergency archive, or substitute for individual organizational accounts. Share revocable credentials when possible, rotate exposed secrets, and move recurring collaboration to systems with appropriate ownership, retention, moderation, and audit controls.
